Music analysis: The breakdown of Ariana Grande’s upcoming album ‘petal’

Ariana Grande has announced her eighth album, petal, is set to be released this summer, and the hints have been everywhere since March.

Here, Music News Blitz’s Amelie Da Costa gives a rundown of everything that has been teased since the beginning.

A carefully planned trail of clues

Ariana has been dropping hints and creating anticipation for the new project via her Instagram on the dates that fall under the number eight, and she’s mainly used her Instagram platform to do all the hinting.

The teasing of the album officially started on March 18, when she posted a number of selfies of herself in a studio, but she didn’t explicitly say anything about new music, causing fans to speculate and talk about the possibility of the new album.

The post consisted of five selfies in the studio within a 20-picture post that included other pictures of her and her dogs, but there was a video of bunnies outside, which is also a relevant part of her dropping hints.

She made further speculation official on April 8, when she took to her platform again to post eight images of her in the studio and another image of what looked to be a wilted flower.

Grande also teased more of herself in the studio on April 18, posting a video of her working on the album, though it was mute, we did get a small hum from this video, which follows on from when she was teasing eternal sunshine.

Official announcement and early momentum

The most recent “hint” she made was on April 28, where she properly announced the album title as petal and the release date, which is set for July 31, 2026.

She also released merch and physical music for fans to purchase related to the album, with including bunnies, making the bunny video a relevant source in teasing the new music.

The album consists of 12 tracks, with the titles yet to be known.

Grande’s new project is set to release halfway through her ‘eternal sunshine tour,’ which is taking place between June 6 and September 1.

Since the announcement of the album, it has racked up 963.8k pre-saves on Spotify and ranks at No.2 on the platform's most anticipated albums chart.

The album cover is black and white, which we haven’t seen from her since 2016, when she released Dangerous Woman, which was 10 years ago.

‘Dangerous Woman’ nostalgia returns through r.e.m. beauty

The album teasing isn’t the only thing that fans are receiving this month, as r.e.m. beauty, her makeup brand, has been dropping hints of a Dangerous Woman-themed product ahead of the 10-year anniversary on May 20.

They have been posting pictures across their Instagram every day since May 2, of the iconic bunny ears that she wore for the album cover.

All we know so far of the collection is that the packaging will be black, and that there is a black lip gloss, with the bunny ear attached as a charm, and a black version of one of their recent products ‘sweet dreams eyeshadow quads’ that was released in January 2026.

Some fans have also speculated that she might release some unreleased songs from that era, as she did for her second album’s 10-year anniversary.

The light is coming this year for Arianators, as it doesn’t look like Ariana is stopping music anytime soon.
