Music news: 20 years on, Taylor Swift continues to write history
Taylor Swift has broken records once again, becoming the youngest woman ever to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
On June 11, exactly 20 years after the release of her first single, Swift has made history once again.
Music News Blitz’s Charlotte Cave has more on the story.
Breaking records
At 36 years old, Swift has become the youngest woman to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, also making her the second-youngest inductee ever, after Stevie Wonder, who was 33 when he joined.
Breaking records for Swift is not out of the ordinary. She holds one of the most prolific record-breaking careers in the industry.
Most notably, her recent Eras Tour became the highest-grossing tour in history, and Swift was the first ever four-time Grammy winner for Album of the Year.
However, this achievement seemed especially special for Taylor, marking something she has seemed most proud of: her lyrics.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame was established in 1969, recognising songwriters who have made a significant impact on the music industry.
Artists must have held a 20-year time frame of a song release before being eligible for induction.
June 11 marked the 20th anniversary of the release of her first single, ‘Tim McGraw,’making Swift eligible for the first time.
Acceptance speech
At the Songwriters Hall of Fame's 55th annual gala, Swift gave a tearful acceptance speech in recognition of her new achievement.
She paid an emotional tribute to her parents and brother, noting their tremendous sacrifices for her throughout her career, stating that “they are the reason I'm here tonight”.
She also expressed her love of songwriting and how deeply meaningful it has been for her, stating that it was “pretty much the only thing I ever naturally did.”
It was clear how grateful Swift was for this recognition as she continues to make history within the industry.

The meaning
Many people have seen this as a full circle moment for Swift.
This monumental anniversary takes her back to 20 years ago, to the single that introduced her into the music industry, skyrocketing a career that would make history.
Throughout that record-breaking career, she has built nothing short of an empire. Creating showstopping tours and albums as well as one of this generation's biggest and most iconic fan bases.
Swift has shown that despite the other factors that come with her fame, songwriting is still at the centre of everything she does, making this one of the reasons this recognition has seemed to ‘hit different.’
Among some of her songs credited were “All Too Well (10-minute version),” “Love Story,” and “Anti-Hero.”
Swift has always made it clear the meaning and importance her lyrics have to her and to her millions of fans.
So now, 20 years on from the release of her first single, this honour recognises the raw talent that got her to where she is today.
