The return of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ - Who are you backing for the win?

Much-beloved show Strictly Come Dancing waltzed its way back onto our screens on Saturday for its 23rd season.

The cast is jam-packed with celebrities, from huge sports personalities to your classic soap stars from Eastenders, Emmerdale and even Neighbours!

But when you think about that final, who can you see competing for the shiny Glitterball?

Music News Blitz writer Rhys Rogers shares his top five picks for the season.

Ellie Goldstein

Model, actor and influencer Ellie Goldstein is making Strictly history, as the first person to compete on the main show with Down Syndrome.

She’s incredibly likeable, as shown on Saturday’s launch show, and her bubbly personality combined with her love for Strictly is definitely a recipe for success.

Plus, she’s partnered with fan-favourite professional Vito Coppola - an unstoppable pairing in my eyes.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey

As the only celebrity on the season with previous experience (after competing in the 2024 Christmas special), things are looking good for Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.

However, what shines through is his natural dance ability and rhythm, not to mention he’s very charismatic - he’s bound to charm the mums, especially with his first dance being to Salt-N-Pepa’s “Push It”.

Vicky Pattinson

TV personality Vicky Pattinson did not shy away from admitting her anxieties about the show on Saturday, but hear me out on this pick.

If she can harness the nerves into hard work and determination, and pair this with her relatable and pleasant nature that we all know and love her for, then she’s definitely one to watch for the final.

Lewis Cope

Emmerdale actor Lewis Cope was the last celebrity announced for the latest season, after actor Kristian Nairn had to pull out due to injury.

But last is certainly not least - Lewis is the token ‘previous dancer’ of the season, after he played Billy Elliot in his childhood, so he certainly has the ability to make it all the way.

Balvinder Sopal

My final pick is self-proclaimed Strictly super-fan Balvinder Sopal, commonly known for her role as Suki Panesar in EastEnders.

As a leading lady in the East End, Balvinder has a huge fanbase in the UK, and her partnership with new professional Julian Caillon will definitely be an exciting watch.

Balvinder has watched the show since its first season back in 2004, and I imagine her passion and love for the show will push her through those tougher moments - this pairing is definitely my one to watch.

Rhys Rogers

Rhys Rogers is currently studying Journalism at the University of Leeds, but he is originally from South Wales - a little town called Bridgend.

Rhys was a competitive dancer from age seven until he went to Leeds, and he became a frequent visitor to Blackpool for competitions (he even won a few).

He also has a huge passion for musical theatre, something he has continued to pursue whilst at uni and it’s the best choice he ever made.

Rhys is a sucker for a good sitcom and rarely watches anything else. He also loves to read, especially a dystopian novel.

Rhys comes from a close-knit family which is very important to him, and time with his friends is a big part of his life.
