Glee is officially returning to television, more than a decade after the musical comedy aired its final episode.
Disney+ and Hulu announced the Glee reboot on October 21, confirming that the project has received a full series order.
The streaming platforms shared the news with a poster declaring: “It’s official. Glee is returning.”
A release date, storyline and official cast list have not yet been revealed.
The new series will be produced by 20th Television and marks Glee’s return 11 years after its original run concluded on Fox, writes Music News Blitz’s Anna Ferraz.
Original Glee creators reunite for reboot
Ryan Murphy has already written material for the new series with fellow Glee creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan.
The trio previously worked together on the programme’s early seasons.
Murphy revealed in September that they had completed a script and that approximately 10 members of the original cast were contacted.
According to the producer, the actors he approached were enthusiastic about the possibility of returning.
It remains unclear whether the reboot will revisit William McKinley High School with a new generation of students or continue the stories of the original New Directions members.

Will the original Glee cast return?
Disney+ and Hulu have not officially announced any returning cast members.
However, Variety reports that Lea Michele is expected to reprise her role as ambitious singer Rachel Berry.
Representatives for Michele and Murphy had not commented publicly on the report at the time of publication.
Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet have also posted messages suggesting that they could return as Brittany Pierce and Sam Evans.
Kevin McHale, who played Artie Abrams, responded to news of the revival by writing “Challenge accepted” on social media.
Other former cast members have offered mixed reactions to a possible reunion.
Jane Lynch has expressed interest in playing Sue Sylvester again, while Chris Colfer recently said that returning would be difficult following the death of Naya Rivera, who played Santana Lopez.
No release date has been announced, but the series order confirms that New Directions will sing again on Disney+ and Hulu.
