Taylor Swift announces new single ‘Patient Zero’ and four-song Life of a Showgirl encore
Taylor Swift isn’t ready to close the curtain on The Life of a Showgirl just yet.
The pop superstar has announced The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, an expanded edition of her blockbuster 2025 album featuring four brand-new songs.
The project arrives Friday, September 25, alongside Swift’s newly announced single, “Patient Zero,” writes Music News Blitz’s Anna Ferraz.
Four new songs join the show
“Patient Zero” leads the new material and will be joined by three additional tracks: “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.”
The songs expand the original 12-track album to 16 tracks, with all four new cuts appearing after the original tracklist.
Swift first revealed “Patient Zero” on Tuesday, September 22, before following it up less than 24 hours later with news that the single was part of a much bigger Showgirl encore.
A celebration turned into a studio session
The new songs were born out of a celebratory trip to Sweden following the extraordinary commercial success of The Life of a Showgirl.
Swift explained that she travelled there to celebrate with Max Martin and Shellback, the longtime collaborators who worked with her on the album.
What was intended as a chance to reflect on the record’s success soon turned into another songwriting session.
“There was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs,” Swift said in announcing the expanded record.
She added that the tracks were created out of “pure gratitude” for the response fans gave the original album.
Continuing a record-breaking era
That response was enormous. Released in October 2025, The Life of a Showgirl became Swift’s 12th studio album and delivered a record-breaking opening, moving more than four million equivalent album units in the US during its first week.
All 12 songs from the original record also occupied the top 12 positions of the Billboard Hot 100.
The original album included tracks such as “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Opalite,” and “Elizabeth Taylor,” as well as its Sabrina Carpenter-assisted title track.

The curtain isn’t closing yet
Now, nearly a year after Showgirl first arrived, Swift is returning to the era with another four songs rather than bringing the curtain down.
The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore and “Patient Zero” arrive September 25.
