The best way to kickstart your very merry Christmas is with some tunes to have you rockin’ around the tree.
The festive period is just around the corner, so it's time to start getting in the spirit and listening to some classic Christmas carols!
Here, Music News Blitz’s Megan Rogers-Jones compiles a list of the top 10 most-streamed Christmas songs based on Spotify statistics to listen to before Santa comes down the chimney.
10. ‘Do They Know it’s Christmas’ by “Band Aid” - 682 million streams
Starting with a classic Christmas song that has a deep meaning, the charity song was written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984 to raise funds for Famile Relief in Ethiopia.
Some of the biggest names of that era joined forces and featured on the song.
With the likes of ‘Bono (U2)’, ‘Sting (The Police)’, and ‘Boy George (Culture Club)’ all coming together in the same studio and recording the song in one day.
The song sold over a million copies in the first week of release and raised £8 million within the year.
9. ‘Mistletoe’ by “Justin Bieber” – 978 million streams
Bieber was only 17 when he released Mistletoe as a lead single from his holiday album ‘Under the Mistletoe’ in 2011.
The song became the highest-debuting Christmas song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 during the time of its release.
The ‘Baby’ singer became the first male artist to debut at the top charts with a Christmas album.
8. ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ by “Andy Williams” - one billion streams
Andy Williams left his mark with this festive tune after being released in 1963, which continues to be played at every Christmas function you’ll attend.
The song was written for Williams’ variety program, where it was performed during his 1962 holiday special episode.
The song still pops up on the charts, even hitting number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2020 - almost 60 years after its release.

7. ‘It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas’ by “Michael Bublé” - 1.2 billion streams
When you think of Christmas, Bublé comes to mind before Santa Claus.
Originally from the 1951 song by Bing Crosby and written by Meredith Willson, Bublé released his cover version in 2011 for his Christmas album.
His cover consistently charts globally when Christmas hits, hitting number 1 on the UK Official Album Charts last December.
6. ‘Snowman’ by “Sia” – 1.3 billion streams
In less than 10 years, Australian singer Sia has hit over a billion streams with her original pop song ‘Snowman’.
The song became significantly popular with the help of social media platforms such as TikTok and was highly praised for being different from the typical Christmas carol covers.
It became one of the most-streamed Christmas songs in the modern era in 2024.
5. ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ by “Bobby Helms” - 1.3 billion streams
Included in ‘Home Alone 2’ and ‘Mean Girls’, Helms’ Christmas song is a prominent one.
The single was released in 1957, and by the next year, peaked at number 6 on the Billboard pop chart and decades later broke records by entering the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019 and climbing to number 3 by 2020.
4. ‘Santa Tell Me’ by “Ariana Grande” 1.4 billion streams
The ‘Wicked’ actress released her original pop holiday single in 2014.
The singer is the 4th top artist globally on Spotify, and among all her songs, ‘Santa Tell Me’ is Grande’s 12th most-streamed song.
It continues to make its way to the top 20 charts globally every single December since its release.

3. ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ by “Brenda Lee” - 1.4 billion
This legendary rock-pop will truly get you dancing and feeling merry.
Written by Johnny Marks, who also wrote ‘A Holly Jolly Christmas’ and ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’, Brenda Lee recorded the song in 1958, and it is now known as one of the most popular Christmas songs.
2. ‘Last Christmas’ by “Wham!” - two billion streams
The most gut-wrenching Christmas song was released by the legendary group “Wham!”, which consisted of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.
When the song was released, it hit number two in the UK charts, where it was involved in the 1984 ‘Chart Battle’ and was famously kept in second place by ‘Do They Know it’s Christmas’, which featured George Michael, so a win for him either way.

The second you open your Advent calendar on the 1st of December, Mariah Carey is awoken.
The most known Christmas song globally, ‘All I Want for Christmas is You,’ was the first holiday song to hit 2 billion streams on Spotify.
Carey has earned over $60 million for this song in streams alone; it really is the gift that keeps on giving.
