Tyla’s A*Pop era peaks with massive Joburg homecoming
Tyla is having a huge year - the Johannesburg-born singer just wrapped up her A-Pop World Tour announcement, and it's going to end with a massive homecoming show at the Expo Centre Nasrec on 9 January.
This comes after a run of thirty-four dates across Europe, the United Kingdom, North America and Africa, which is Tyla’s first-ever global headline tour, writes Music News Blitz’s Likhanye Lolo.
The tour follows her second album, A*Pop, which came out on 24 July.
She keeps topping charts
The album debuted at number forty-three on the Billboard 200, selling 16966 units in its first week, and it's also reached number five on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart.
On iTunes, it hit number one worldwide, which is a big deal for a South African artist.
A*Pop keeps Tyla’s “Popiano” sound and includes collaborations with South African artists MaWhoo, Babalwa M and Liquideep. Swedish pop star Zara Larsson also features on the album.
Coming home
Before the tour, Tyla threw an A*Pop takeover event at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on 16 August.
It was done in partnership with South African Tourism and Absa. At the event, Tyla told fans, “If I’m honest, I know I’m a pop star, but I’ll never get used to this. What the heck!”
She also said, ‘I grew up in South Africa; we never had this, but I’m grateful.”
Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille spoke about what Tyla means to the country, saying that “Tyla has always been authentic in her work. As a daughter of the African soil and an advocate for South Africa”.

She is South African at heart
Tyla’s breakout single “Water” made history back in 2024; it was the first track by a South African solo artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 in fifty-five years.
Since then, she has become one of South Africa’s biggest names in music.
Now with A*Pop doing so well on the charts and a homecoming show already set for January, it looks like Tyla is only getting bigger and bigger.
