Ariana Grande keeps the ‘eternal sunshine’ era alive by releasing a new music video for her song ‘supernatural’

Following the recent release of her deluxe album, eternal sunshine deluxe: brighter days ahead, Ariana Grande has delivered a new music video following the recent blow-up of her song “supernatural,” and Music News Blitz’s Amelie Da Costa is here to tell us all about it.

The song was on the original version of the album eternal sunshine which was released March 8, 2024, but was never given a music video.

The album itself has three official singles titled “yes, and?”, “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” and “the boy is mine”, which are the only songs on the album to have music videos - until now.

The ‘hit that got away’

Fans have speculated since the original album drop that there were going to be six singles across the whole album, due to a piece of merch she released last year showing six files and three of them were titled as the other singles.

In March 2025, Grande started to promote the deluxe version of the album with a hotline that mimicked an answerphone message from Brighter Days Inc. which was the company she came up with to use in the “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” music video.

As the release date got closer, the hotline message changed frequently, however, fans noticed that she described “supernatural” as the ‘hit that got away’ in the original message.

On March 28, 2025, Ariana released eternal sunshine deluxe: brighter days ahead with six new songs and a short film on YouTube.

The short film featured multiple songs across the entire album that tell a story, one of the songs being “supernatural.”

Since the release of the film, the song blew up on social media, especially across TikTok, and became a trend.

It also re-entered the Spotify global charts at 172 with 1.14 million streams on May 12 of this year - and has been gaining millions of streams every day since.

A long-awaited visual

As an acknowledgement of this, Grande released the official music video for “supernatural” on May 19th 2025 - but hasn’t said yet whether it is a single for the album.

The music video was directed by Christian Breslauer, who she’s worked closely with during the eternal sunshine era on projects such as the short film.

The video starts with her walking out of her home and into a destroyed street that has crashed cars, ruined buildings and fire surrounding it.

The camera pans the entirety of the street in slow motion whilst staying on Ariana the entire time as she sings the song.

Towards the end of the video, a UFO appears with a beam of light that causes her to ascend into the air appearing as if she’s being abducted by something.

The music video can be seen as a metaphor as the damaged street represents her destroyed marriage and the abduction represents her current relationship saving her from ruin.

So far the music video has just under one million views in a day but fans are glad it's finally getting the recognition it deserves over a year later, since its initial release.
